The Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) of South Africa has been looking to significantly enhance its information collection, management and analytical capacity for some considerable time and has studied many options. UNODC is delighted that, after very careful study by its very skilled and experienced IT and analytical staff, the FIC has chosen goAML as the IT platform to take it into the future.

UNODC is pleased to announce that the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) of Bermuda, after long and careful consideration, has decided to acquire goAML for its information management and analytical and management needs. UNODC and the management and staff of the FIA have been in discussion regarding the IT needs of the Agency for over a year and the FIA has very carefully weighed its options before deciding to choose goAML.

A team from UNODC attended the 2009 annual meeting of the Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG) in Brisbane, Australia from 6-10 July.

At the annual Egmont Group Plenary in Doha from 24-28 May, the UNODC/ITS team was included for the first time as a full member of the IT Working Group (ITWG) and took part in the full agenda, including making a presentation on the new features of goAML and what is intended in future releases. A brief presentation was also made to the full plenary meeting. UNODC is grateful to the Egmont Group for its continued support and looks forward to contributing positively to the work of the ITWG in particular.

goAML has been successfully installed in the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of Tanzania in Dar Es Salaam.
goAML was installed over a two week period and training was delivered to FIU management and staff. Manual reporting to the FIU is underway and the Reporting institutions are working towards automated reporting to the FIU, Tanzania via XML upload.

A further in-depth analysis of goAML has recently been completed by the Financial Intelligence Center of South Africa.

The FIU of the Netherlands has recently completed an exhaustive evaluation of goAML. From UNODC's viewpoint we have found this exercise as valuable as the evaluation by AUSTRAC and FINTRAC as the IT personnel from the Netherlands would be amongst the most experienced in the world. This evaluation had the added edge of the Netherlands FIU looking seriously at goAML as a possible solution to their data collection, management and analytical needs. The decision making process in the Netherlands is well advanced and we are confident that the Netherlands FIU will soon join the goAML user group. UNODC is very excited about the possibility of working with an FIU with the breadth of knowledge and experience that the Netherlands FIU possesses.
