Financial Intelligence Centre of South Africa signs on to goAML - Fourth African user of goAML!

The Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) of South Africa has been looking to significantly enhance its information collection, management and analytical capacity for some considerable time and has studied many options. UNODC is delighted that, after very careful study by its very skilled and experienced IT and analytical staff, the FIC has chosen goAML as the IT platform to take it into the future.

The Centre, based in Centurion, South Africa, was established under the FIC Act No. 38 of 2001 in February 2002 in order to identify the proceeds of unlawful activities and to combat money laundering activities. The Centre has been receiving reports on suspicious and unusual transactions since February 2003 and is a member of the Egmont Group. The FIC is an experienced and sophisticated FIU and its choice of goAML is a significant step forward for the application itself. Its use by the experienced analytical staff, in particular, will undoubtedly result in significant enhancements to future releases of goAML.

UNODC is particularly encouraged by the fact that this is the fourth installation of goAML in Africa and hopes that the confidence shown in goAML by the FIC will encourage other African FIUs looking for an IT solution to seriously consider goAML.

Installation of goAML in South Africa commenced on 20 August 2009.
